Posted on | August 18, 2010 |
i have experienced dry mouth, trouble sleeping, and a side effect not listed; i have absolutley NO appetite. this is very unusual being that i eat ALOT. i am a growing 15 year old girl.
i mean i am physically hungry, but have NO desire to eat.
so then when i dont eat i feel sick. is this because of the advair?
[[ i have been on it for about a week now. and thats when all this started. ]]

I’ve been taking the advair diskus for just over a year now and i haven’t had any side effects from it at all. It could be from the advair or could it possibly be from you reading the side effects and all of a sudden relating the fact that you could be more thirsty now(it is getting warmer out) and the trouble sleeping…maybe you’re thinking about it too much. I’m not really sure…I’d say wait it out a bit, it’s only been a week, but if you really can’t handle it go back to your doctor and get put on one of the other inhalers.

Oral steroids can cause type 2 diabetes! Age doesn’t matter. They can also cause dry mouth and thirst, as you may be needing more liquid with them than you are drinking currently.
Appetite?? Not being able to make up your mind about food isn’t one of the side effects. Physical hunger requires eating something!!
Go another week, but call the doctor for an appointment and talk about this problem.

I have cough-variant asthma — basically a cough that lingers after I have a cold, as well as mild cough from exposure to dust and pollen.
The first medication I was prescribed for this was Advair. I developed "thrush" — an oral yeast infection, which was pretty scary. Symptoms: sore throat, white residue on lips, sores on lips and tongue. I called my allergist and he told me to switch to Pulmicort, which is less likely to cause thrush.
I’ve used Pulmicort for about 3 years, and can not say that it completely relieved my symptoms (neither did Advair Diskus.)
I recently started using some non-traditional methods (in particular, Reiki, look it up) IN ADDITION TO THE PULMICORT, and the improvement was enormous. My persistent cough is gone, and the result of my latest breathing test was something like 80% (as opposed to 60% on Pulmicort!). Interstingly enough, my allergist has not asked me how I have achieved this!
So my suggestion is–ask about Pulmicort, and start doing Yoga, Reiki, or something similar.
