Both can aid in muscle gain, but there are slight differences. In the bodybuilding community HGH is sometimes used to produce results when one has reached a plateau with steroids. To combine HGH with steroids is what many do. HGH does something that steroids typically can not do, which is cause hyperplasmia which is rapid cell division and creation of new muscle fibers. Steroids only increase the size of your muscle cells. So, in a nutshell HGH is more permanent and goes way beyond genetical limitations. You are born with the same amount of muscle and fat cells, when they increase in size you gain weight, vice versa when you lose weight. HGH actually increases the amount of muscle cells within your body. The caveat to this is that HGH doesn’t single out just your muscles. It tells your entire body to grow, including organs. This is why, allegedly, when Barry Bonds took HGH, over the years, his head size increased, which is something that can happen.

HGH is preffered by baseball players and many other sports that test for steroids. See there is no sport that test for HGH; its very difficult to test for this.

Also, HGH heals cartlidge, joints, and connective tissue a bit faster, being a little better for sports like baseball.

HGH is much more expensive as well.
