How long did you have your baby/babies after pre term labour started?
Posted on | August 6, 2010 |
I’m in the hospital now on my little laptop. My question is how long after your pre term labour started did you have the babies. Also I was wondering if I should op for the steriod lung developing injection for the twins or just pray they stay in there longer and go for the most natural route?
But at almost 32 weeks, you would think the lungs would be developed?
The doctor said its 50/50 without testing.

I have 2 1/2 month old twin boys….
I had preterm labor at 29 weeks 1 day and was sent to the hospital to be put on the monitor. They gave me a shot of brethine to stop contractions and fluids and sent me home on bed rest. At 29 weeks and 4 days I went back to the hospital for contractions. I was not dilated but my cervix was soft. They gave me more brethine and the doctor ordered the shots for the babies lungs (celestone). They also sent me home with oral brethine to take as needed.
I ended up out of work until after delivery and on modified bedrest. At the end I had pre-eclampsia as well. I ended up carrying my boys until 36 weeks and 6 days when my water broke. They were perfectly healthy and came home with me. I had contractions on and off until I delivered and at 34 weeks I was 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced.
At 32 weeks the lungs are most likely not developed enough and I would definitely get the shots for their lungs. It will not hurt you or them. Get it to be on the safe side, you will be glad you did if for some reason you can’t carry them much further.
Are you dilating at all? Best of luck to you!

Definitely get the lung steroid shots! My water broke in my 28th week and I was able to stay pregnant for 5 more days. Delivered my son in my 29th week and he was able to breathe on his own, I believe, due to the steroid shots.
32 weeks is still very early…the lungs aren’t fully developed until the baby is full term. I saw much bigger babies than my little guy in that NICU with breathing problems. The shots make a huge difference. My son was not even 3 pounds and he was breathing all on his own when he was born! He is now a super healthy and very boisterous 21 month old! I highly recommend the shots.

32 weeks is SUPER early. I would get the shots. I didn’t get the shots (I was induced on the spot unexpectedly at 34 weeks due to sudden complications). My son came out screaming crying and had no problems breathing at all and didn’t need any assistance… he was just underweight. But my friend had 2 sets of shots (one set of 2 shots around 21 weeks and another set at 35 weeks). Her son was born at 35 weeks and had to have breathing assistance for about a week. So really you just never know how it will turn out. Congrats on your soon-to-be arrival!

How many weeks are you? I delivered my baby at 34 weeks and they were able to take a sample of my amniotic fluid and were able to determine from that that his lungs were mature enough. Once your water breaks you have to deliver the babies within 24 hours or it opens it up for massive infections. My water broke at 5:00 a.m. and I delivered at 1:00 a.m. However, my labor was stopped with medicines because I had to be transported and then it was restarted with pitocin. It would not have taken that long if I hadn’t have had to go through that.
