How to gain weight with most of the weight being muscle mass?
Posted on | September 3, 2010 |
I am a runner in HS, I ran so much this summer that I lost 30 pounds in 3 months. I am starting to gain the weight back. As I do this I want to gain it at muscle not fat. I do lift Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. Is there anything else I can do to build muscle and not fat as I gain weight?

Increase your protein intake, as that will help to build muscles alongside muscle building exercises.

With that amount of physical exercise you shouldn’t have to worry about much, if any of it being fat. You also want to make sure you consume your body weight in grams of protein per day. For example, if you weight 100 lbs. you should eat 100g of Protein. Not sure what you think about supplements, but Creatine would be a good way to put on some muscle mass. Good luck!

Protein and caloric intake is a must for gaining muscle. You need a caloric surplus to make gains. Just make sure it’s a healthy intake. Oats, eggs, lean meats and fish are some great and cheap foods to eat. Eat small, protein packed meals often. 6 times a day is the norm. Drink lots of water, take a Multivitamin and Omega 3 supplement and perhaps Creatine before lifting. Intense cardio is going to be detrimental to gaining muscle, so limit it to once or twice a week. Good luck.
