How to get my cat to gain some weight?

Posted on | August 31, 2009 |

My cat is like almost 6 months old and the vet says that his weight is fine, but I feel like he’s too thin. It’s especially noticable when I give him a bath. He eats all the time (both hard and soft foods) but he doesn’t seem to be getting any bigger. He plays very hard all the time too, so is he just playing too hard causing him to lose weight? Are there special kitten foods to help gain weight or should I give him kitten milk? Any suggestions will help. Thanks.
He is a strictly indoor cat.
He hasn’t been dewormed, but he was checked for worms and doesn’t have them. The vet said that if he won’t be going outside then there is not really a reason to get him dewormed since his test was negative anyway.

He may just be petite. My cat has always been very small and skinny, no matter how much she eats. If the vet says he’s all right, than he probabaly is, just bring him in for frequent check ups if you’re feeling really nervous about his weight. Also, has he been de-wormed? Cats often have trouble gaining weight when they have a parasite.

He’s not too thin he’s just a healthy cat. cats have a natural body shape like humans and yours is just naturally thin.

the vet says he’s fine so don’t worry about it unless you start to see his bones. then take him in again

Deworming should be carried out especially in those, which do not stay confined to the house. Worm infestation can occur by ingestion of eggs from lice, fleas or rodents. Such cats will have a dull coat and either refuses to eat or may feed a lot. Make sure you show it to a vet before any complication arises due to worms.
