Because 99% of the Beef in Stores have had hormones injected into them. Could that be a contributing factor in why Americans are getting so fat?

doctors say that the reason more children are coming into puberty earlier is due to the growth hormones in our food. Our teen is growing so fast right now (a normal process at this time) that we buy all the hormone-free milk and food we can afford, because he is taking in so many calorie right now, and we do not want all those hormones in him. Americans are getting fat because we consume more calories than we burn, regardless of an inborn hormonal or genetic problem, like so many claim. These people simply have to exercise more and/or eat less. But keep it in perspective..we are not in Haiti. I hate all the hormones in our food and I am dead set against manipulating animals by cloning them, simply because I do not trust the people who do it. A person who gained more weight by going to a meat diet from a vegetarian diet is probably due to the higher fat content, not the hormones in the meat.

"Growth promoting hormones not only remain in the meat we consume, but they also pass through the cattle and are excreted in their manure. When manure from factory farms enters the surrounding environment, these hormones can contaminate surface and groundwater. Aquatic ecosystems are particularly vulnerable to hormone residues. Recent studies have demonstrated that exposure to hormones has a substantial effect on the gender and reproductive capacity of fish, throwing off the natural cycle.
Despite international scientific concern, the United States and Canadavii continue to allow growth promoting hormones in cattle.viii The European Union, however, does not allow the use of hormones in cattle production, has prohibited the import of hormone-treated beef since 1988, and has banned all beef imports from the US."
So yes they do have an effect, but they won’t make you grow in the same sense as a cow. The reason Sparky here got fatter when he wasn’t a vegetarian was due to the high amounts of cholesterol and fat in meat rather than any hormone and it’s the American love of their meat that makes so many so fat. It is a bad idea to eat meat with hormones in it, so try your best to find it without, though I have no idea how easy that is over in the US
