Is it a good idea to lift weights while trying to gain weight?
Posted on | September 1, 2010 |
I am a high school girl runner averaging 40+ miles a week. Over the coarse of 3 months I lost 30+ pounds. I am 5′ 10" and I did weigh 140 pounds. Loosing that 30 pounds put me at a very unhealthy weight. I am trying to gain my weight back. I want however to gain most of it back as muscle. Is it a good idea to lift weights to build up my muscles as I am gaining the weight?

You should limit you’re cardio (running/ aerobics/ dance/ etc ..) and focus on stretching/ strength exercise to gain muscle instead. I recommend checking out this website below. It has tons of helpful tips on gaining weight and building muscle fast. Hope this help.

from the sounds of things you want lean muscle so as long as your not going mad with big weights then lifting low weights but doing alot of reps will help build muscle, however that is the same routine as toning so you may want to be careful about how much you do so you dont end up looking like madonna did a few years ago with all the sinew

i suppose it is. Muscle weighs more than fat does. lifting weights would actually help you gain weight faster if your making progress because again, mucsle weighs more than fat.
so yes, in theory it should be effective if your just tryin to gain it back as muscle.
keep it up girl.
