Is the asthma med Qvar a steriod that causes stretchmarks and bad side effects or is that a different form?

I was prescribed the inhailer, and I have heard that meds like prednasone and such can break down skin tissues resulting in stretchmarks and stuff. Is this the same kind of steriod that causes that, or no? Thanks

i have never taken Qvar, but i have other puffers, i used to take prednasone but it is kinda bad to take for a long time, i would rather not take puffers with steroids in them because of their side effects.there are some good puffers out there without steroids in them, ask your doctor about them.have a great day!!

qvar is an inhaler with micronized corticosteroids. it works by controlling the inflammation in the airways to prevent asthma attacks.
the drug is micronized so that it can get to the site of action (the airways in your lungs) to work and to minimize systemic absorption. systemic absorption as in having the drug all over your body non-specifically. with minimal systemic absorption, systemic side effect is minimal.
the most noticeable side effect would be "oral thrust", which is an overgrown of fungus inside the mouth. it can be prevented by rinsing your mouth after using the inhaler. a lot of people found it helpful to use the steroid before they brush their teeth in the morning and at bedtime. that way, you clean out the steroid in your mouth.
there is no need to concern about stretchmarks from an inhaled steroids. using inhaled steriods on a regular basis can decreased the number of asthma attack, and thus decrease the need of oral steroids.
