What is a healthy way to gain weight during pregnancy when I'm a naturally skinny girl?
Posted on | July 18, 2010 |
I’m a skinny girl - at 17 years old and 5′6" I’ve always stayed at 115-120 pounds. I went to the doctor recently for an ear infection and got yelled at for losing 2 pounds. I’m 16 weeks pregnant and the only way I’ve been able to gain weight at all is to pig out on fast food and pudding - but I’m feeling the ick of it all. I need a good way to gain this weight but in a way that isn’t difficult for me. Any advice?

You could try eating nutrient and calorie dense foods. Nuts pack in a lot of calories, and they’re generally good for you. A handful of almonds, cashews, etc would be a good, high calorie snack. Also try adding lots of carbs like breads, rice, pastas, potatoes, stuff like that. Cheese is healthy and has a pretty high amount of calories too. I would suggest not eating the fast food as often (of course, once a week or so wouldn’t be horrid…), cause that’s not very nutritious for the baby. Good luck, I hope you and baby stay nice and healthy!!!

Losing weight during pregnancy is actually natural. Especially if you are on medications for something. I had the flu and strep during pregnancy and lost ten pounds. Nobody yelled at me and my baby is fine! Try eating more carbs like bread and pasta.

I’m in the same situation. I’m 17, 5′1, 110 pounds, 27 weeks pregnant and I only gained ten pounds the entire time I’ve been pregnant. Now my doctor has sent me to a high risk pregnancy center for my lack of weight gain. They told me that the best thing that I can do for myself and the baby is to gradually add in another meal to my day.
They said it will help me put on those extra pounds and it has been working.
Good luck with your baby!

Eat more often. Healthy things of course, but if you just sitting around watching tv, or whatever, snack on something.
