well the largest boost of GH you get is while your asleep. thats why you get sleepy after a hard workout because your body needs that GH to help repair. I think you may be thinking of Testosterone, which both guys and girls have…guys just have more of it. the best exercises to increase test levels which burns fat and increases muscle are the larger muscle groups. doing workouts for the legs, back, and chest increase testosterone levels and its recommended that if you do a full body workout, you start with those before going into the smaller muscle groups.

Growth hormone fluctuates through the blood stream through out the day. The majority of it is released during sleep. So basically, any exercise which improves your sleep should increase the amount of growth hormone your body makes. Teenagers tend to need more sleep, and it is during this time they are going through their finally growth spurt.
